March 3 Numbers 33-36 & Hebrews 7
When trying to do something new or to start again at something you have tried before, it rarely works to take one giant leap. The Israelites journeyed by stages. They had a lot to work out both good and bad to become the chosen people of God. Same is true for our faith journey – avoid big leaps…… little steps a few minutes at a time. And never go it alone. The journey of faith is a we-thing. It is not just about me getting to heaven. My destiny is tied to your destiny. God shows us this in the journey of the Israelites. It wasn’t just about Moses or Aaron or this tribe or that one. It is about the whole. Little steps - with someone.
In Jesus, we have the establishment of the priestly character of the church. The priesthood of Jesus never passes away. He is the servant that offered his life as the sacrifice for us all. Only Jesus could step in where the Israelite High priests left off. For as Heb. 7:26-27, “It was fitting that we should have such a high priest: holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, higher than the heavens. He has no need, as did the high priests, to offer sacrifice day after day, first for his own sins and then for those of the people; he did that once for all when he offered himself.” Jesus intercedes for us forever. Do not despair your sins. Jesus is our faithful high priest. Trust in his care for you.
